Intervals cancelled, but there's a new gadget in town...

Today has been a mixed day, exercise-wise... After getting Pushupathon and Plankaday * (see explanation below) out of the way first thing this morning, I then had a squash match at lunchtime with one of my regular partners - Doug, who I'm sure I'll mention again in future.

I won the squash game and managed not to injure myself (a frequent problem for me), but I did somehow whack my racquet against the wall so hard, that it's now bent into a lovely arc shape, instead of being straight - and I've only had it a few weeks. Oops! That's why I only buy cheap racquets!

This evening our plan was to run intervals (400m fast, 200 slow) with the boys and my half marathon partners: Ellie, Stuart and Jono. Unfortunately they had to cancel, so instead Kieran and I went for a quick 5K to test out his new gadget: a Garmin Forerunner 205 GPS watch.
Kieran's new gadget.

The Forerunner 205 is a late Christmas / early birthday present from Kieran's grandparents, and he's over the moon with it. The data it recorded matched my MotoActv watch almost exactly, it seems pretty easy to use and has loads of screens / features. We took the run fairly gently, but it still felt like a good workout for us both.

An exciting day planned tomorrow

Kieran will have a great chance to play with his new toy first thing tomorrow morning - when we're running at the Colwick Parkrun, my favourite discovery of the last 2 months.

I'm hoping / expecting that we'll have a record turnout of friends / family tomorrow morning, the boys are definitely coming with me, my Mum and Dad are marshalling, and my best friend Jason is walking it for the first time, with his dog. There are another 10 or so friends who may be coming, it will be great to see who makes it.

One person who's definitely coming is Steve from Northampton, who I met after 3Kms of the Market Rasen 10K in November. We ran the rest of the race together, chatting while we ran (that didn't go well with some of the people we passed) - and established that we're both keen squash players and agreed to meet up for a game.  That game is going to be tomorrow morning, after we've both run the Parkrun. I'm expecting that Steve will be a far better player than me (I'm keen but not too talented), so my 100% record for this year may end at the third match.

After lunch, I'm really hoping that the boys and I will be able to get out on our bikes for the first time in weeks - the weather is supposed to be good enough, and it will be great to get our first ride of 2012 completed, not to mention I need to get the miles logged towards my targets!

Here's how I'm getting on so far this month:

Running: 35.5 miles (57.2K)
Walking: 1.2 miles
Cycling: 0 miles
Swimming: 0 miles
Total: 36.7 miles (59K)
Running streak: 45 days (started 23/11/2011)

I'm also hoping to get a bike ride in on Sunday, weather permitting, as well as a run of course!

Have a great weekend everyone,

Mike
*Plankathon = do a plank (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1120673/How-perfect-plank.html) for as long as you can every day.
*Pressupathon = do 1 more press up every day (so today was 6, tomorrow will be 7, December 31st will be 366 in one day!)
